Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 9, 2026

This policy explains how Swell, published by MEDIATECHDZ, processes data required to provide messaging and calling features.

Data we process

Contacts

After you open Contacts and grant permission, contact names remain on your device. Swell normalizes phone numbers and sends SHA-256 fingerprints of the numbers to match existing Swell accounts. Invitations are never sent automatically.

Permissions

Contacts, camera, microphone, selected photos/videos and location are requested only when the related feature is used. Swell does not perform permanent background location tracking.

Sharing and service providers

Messages, media and shared location are made available to recipients you choose. Swell uses technical infrastructure needed for notifications (FCM/APNs) and calls (LiveKit). We do not sell user data to advertisers or use it for advertising tracking.

Usage measurement and beta testing

Only after successful OTP verification, Swell associates the installation with the phone number verified by the server, a random installation identifier generated by the app, platform, device model, operating-system version, Swell version/build, and first/last activity timestamps. This information is used for security, beta support, adoption measurement and service reliability. This module does not collect IMEI, MAC addresses or advertising identifiers.

User experience and feedback

When you choose to send feedback, a suggestion or a problem report, Swell stores the feedback text, rating, category, app version, platform and limited device information. If you attach a screenshot, it is stored only to review the feedback. You may allow or refuse follow-up contact. A suggestion becomes visible for community voting only after an administrator explicitly publishes it.

Retention and deletion

Data is kept while needed to provide the service or according to ephemeral-message settings. You can delete your account from Swell Settings; the server removes the account and associated personal data subject to narrowly required legal/security retention. You may also submit a request on the public deletion page.

Reports and safety

If you report a user or message, Swell may retain a snapshot of the reported content and report metadata as necessary to investigate abuse and protect users.

Security

Server communications use TLS/HTTPS. In one-to-one conversations, Swell encrypts text and supported attachments before transmission. Swell uses device-based protection when compatible device keys are available. For interoperability, a server-assisted compatibility mode may be used; that mode remains encrypted but should not be considered strict end-to-end encryption because the server can technically derive the shared key. Groups, live location and calls are not yet covered by strict end-to-end encryption. Reported content may be disclosed by the reporting user to moderation.
